The green transition and climate action are accelerating. The global economy is currently contracting. Demand for rare earth elements, copper, cobalt and gold is forecast to increase. Smarter exploration strategies are required to discover reserves sustainably and under cover. Meanwhile, we'll be reliant upon petroleum exploration and production for a while yet: air travel, roads, plastic, fuel to construct mines and renewable energy equipment, etc.
Route To Reserves is developing systematic workflows for regional scale exploration of critical metals and gold. Maps displaying probability of success, strength of information and project risk are being designed to facilitate geoscientists, strategists and investors to improve decision quality together. Rather than re-invent the wheel, Route To Reserves is adapting the extremely successful techniques of sub-surface petroleum exploration to benefit metals projects.
QUANTIFY, MAP, THEN REDUCE PROJECT UNCERTAINTIES AND RISKS, TO
IMPROVE EXPLORATION SUCCESS
Step-by-step workflows for: probability-based exploration, regional risk mapping,
Each scale of targeting on the Exploration Triangle process has a proceed or exit decision gate:
1st stage. Screen mineral provinces and QC organisation strategy.
2nd stage. Rank and prioritise the most prospective provinces, then districts.
- Analyse mineral systems.
- Undiscovered endowment potential.
- QC client's readiness to enter license blocks and acquire expensive data.
Evaluating commodity systems.
Integrating nation, province, district and prospect scales.
Mineral and petroleum system mapping, risking and ranking.
Improving decision quality.
Mapping confidence in models and geological chance of success.
Complex structural geology.
Sedimentary basin evolution.
TO ASSIST YOU
Do you need to refine your regional-scale geological success evaluations?
Have you mapped the company's exploration chance of success and uncertainties?
Have you identified the project's weakest links and prioritised strengthening them?
Do you seek facilitation to align the project's stakeholders?
Route To Reserves can guide your risk-based exploration targeting.
Interested in incorporating these tasks into your exploration process?
Vision and aims
Assist companies to discover critical metals and gold more efficiently by improving their: strategic planning, targeting efficiency, communication between stakeholder groups, decision quality and success rate analysis.
1. Screen and assess metallogenic provinces, then mineral systems.
2. Risk, rank and prioritise the most prospective to select optimal licenses and efficiently allocate exploration budget.
3. Narrow the gaps between the geoscience research, the exploration process and and business investment.
4. Advise at the end of each exploration targeting stage whether to proceed, pause or exit the project.
Systematic workflows and decision-enhancement tools to quantify, map and communicate:
Geological chance of success at province, mineral system then district scales.
Confidence, uncertainties and gaps in your data and models.
A province's distribution of known resources and reserves, then possible endowment potential.
How is Route To Reserves and its approach different?
Not focused at deposit scale. Instead enhances exploration at cheaper, larger, earlier, exploration stages.
Quantify and map the chance of geological success and confidence in information at each exploration stage.
A predictive approach and a planning tool; Not a prospecting technique.
Intergates geoscience, probabilistic assessment, project viability screening, exploration strategy.
Workflows designed to guide, link and inform the entire exploration team.
Most mineral exploration expenditure is focused at prospect scale with localised vision. Exploration has seen rising costs, but insufficient improvement in exploration success rates or reserves additions. Exploration risk and spending may be reduced by focusing on brownfield and near-mine land. But that's not going to help predict the locations of well-endowed, greenfield areas.
Minerals exploration needs a different approach and a step-change in success rate, like what petroleum exploration gained once the Play-Based Exploration mindset became widely accepted and used. Play-Based Exploration enabled exploration companies to use a portfolio approach to predict and risk where petroleum system components overlap geographically: revealing the most likely regions for future petroleum discoveries. Predictive exploration targeting and Play-Based Exploration techniques could be the paradigm shift the minerals exploration sector needs. Route To Reserves brings those tools.
Decision-making teams that want regional scale context for their business strategies.
Designed for geoscientists, strategy planners, economists, and investors to use together.
To improve decision quality together.
How this vision grew
This inspiration came when predicting and mapping and petroleum system components at nation scale, to provide a risk-based foundation for exploration prospects and license block evaluations. And seeing the Eureka! moments of exploration managers and business developers. "Aaaahaaa! I see it. These maps show the commodity sweet spot is more likely to be to the south. It is under-explored there, and has open license areas. But look at the risk values in the north; We should reduce our spending there".
